Hello again! This week we are still working on the text Hatchet. But we did it with Socratic Seminars to practice explaining our details. If you don't know what a Socratic is, its where we gather ourselves into a circle and discuss our opinions about one question based on the text.
Also, if you forgot what Hatchet is about from last week’s blog it is a fictional text about a boy that crash flies a plane and gets stuck in the Canadian Wilderness. He survives on berries and water from the lake.
This was all we did this week in Close Reading because we also took the ELA Ready Assessment. This is a test to see where you are at with using the strategies for reading. We have to read 4 different texts and then answer multiple choice questions by using the who and the what and circling important details.
One of the questions I asked my class was….
Q: How did you do on the ELA Ready Assessment?
Crystalin: It was easy since we did this once before.
On the other hand Hager said, “It was so hard!”
Another Question was…
Q: What strategy helped you during the ElA Ready Assessment?
Eran said he used the who and what strategy, which is when you find the who and the what of the paragraph.
Kevin said he underlined important details to answer his multiple choice question. He also said the socratic seminars help him answer his mutiple choice.
Stay tuned for next week!
