This week we are learning about ants and what they can do, where they live and what they look like.
Also the skills, we are practicing are what do words mean and how to chunk and annotate paragraphs to find the main ideas. We learned about these by reading an informational text about Ants.
This is the 2nd blog that i am doing. Also that, we are learning more new thing and they are also in the purple book like the last blog. We are see about ants and what they can do.
For example one main idea was that ants look like termites and people confuse the ants for termites. But you have to know how they look different. Ants have antennae with a bend, powerful jaws, large heads and a narrow waist between the abdomen and thorax, but termites do not have this. So that’s how you can tell them apart if you see them in your house.
Another interesting fact about ants is when the queen ant is laying eggs, that means no other female ants can lay eggs. The queen can lay thousands of eggs at one time. Usually when the queen lays eggs, the male ant dies. I don’t know why this happens. It doesn’t seem fair, but that’s how it is.
Also, ants eat seeds, fungus, and some insects.
I interviewed some classmates and here is what they said.
